Professor Graeme Stewart AM

Professor Graeme Stewart AM is both a consultant physician and pathologist in the field of immunology.

He is the founding head of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at Westmead Hospital and founding director of the Institute for Immunology and Allergy Research (IIAR), one of the four founding research groups of the Westmead Millennium Institute.

Professor Stewart’s research interests focus on the immunogenetics of human disease particularly multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and allergic disorders.

The goal of this research is to better understand the mechanisms by which genetic factors influence the immune system in causing these disease states, in the severity and progression of disease and in response to therapy with the ultimate aim of assisting the development of new approaches to more effective treatment or prevention.
